944 Coilover Alignment & Damper Settings Guide
Coilover setup for various use
For lowered Porsche 944 / 944 Turbo with LPM coilovers, 6K front / 10K rear springs and rear torsion bars removed. Proposed starting points for performance road tires; not factory specifications or a tested LPM setup chart. Refine for your tires, ride height and chassis.
Alignment starting targets
| Setting (decimal degrees) | Aggressive street | Track day | autocross |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front camber, per wheel | -1.5° | -2.5° | -2.8° |
| Rear camber, per wheel | -1.5° | -2.0° | -1.8° |
| Front TOTAL toe | 0.06° IN | 0.00° | 0.06° OUT |
| Rear TOTAL toe | 0.16° IN | 0.12° IN | 0.10° IN |
Toe is total per axle; split equally left/right. 0.16° total means 0.08° per wheel. Camber is equal left/right. Use the correct model-year factory caster specification, with left/right matched, and rear thrust angle close to zero; early and late 944 specifications differ.
1) Aggressive street
Prioritize stability, braking confidence and compliance. Inspect inner tire shoulders and reduce negative camber if road mileage and wear call for it.
2) Track day
More front camber supports sustained cornering; zero front toe limits scrub. Keep rear toe-in for stability. Refine using hot tire temperatures, wear and tire-maker guidance. Slicks or aero require a separate setup.
3) autocross
Slight front toe-out helps response in short transitions. Retain rear toe-in. Return to street toe for regular road use; zero front toe is a practical compromise if frequent realignment is impractical.
Provisional damper starting settings
The listed LPM system has 30-position adjustment. These are experimental baselines, not manufacturer-validated presets. Confirm the soft direction and permitted range in the instructions supplied with your kit.
- Aggressive street: front 8 / rear 8 clicks from full soft.
- Track day: front 12 / rear 10 clicks from full soft.
- autocross: front 10 / rear 8 clicks from full soft.
Full soft = zero; count each detent toward firm. Approach stops gently; never force or exceed the permitted range. Keep left/right equal on each axle. Do not assume clockwise is firm. If your adjusters differ from the listed 30-position system, obtain a kit-specific baseline.
Change one axle by 1-2 clicks and repeat the same road section or session. For rough or wet conditions, try 2 clicks softer on both axles and reassess. autocross on broken pavement may need the street baseline. Soften the affected axle if tires skip over bumps; try 1-2 clicks firmer if body motion keeps oscillating. Log settings and pressures; steady-state balance also depends on tires, alignment, springs and sway bars.
Lowered-car setup checks
Follow LPM preload/body-length instructions, preserve bump/droop travel, check ball-joint articulation, tire and hose clearance, spring seating and bump steer. No universal fender-height target applies to every 944. Set height and corner balance with driver ballast and representative fuel, then align all four wheels. Recheck toe after any height or camber change and hardware torque after settling. Evaluate competition settings on a closed course.
