Porsche Suspension Selection Guide

Thinking about ride comfort and spring choices? Our companion Coilover Setup Guide starts with how you want the car to feel and explains the choices behind a street, dual-purpose or track-focused setup.

What would you like your Porsche to do better?

Maybe you enjoy the car on the road but want a little more confidence when the corners tighten. Perhaps your first few track days have left you wishing for more front grip—or wondering why the outside shoulders of the tires are wearing so quickly. Or you may already know the alignment you want, but your current suspension won't quite get there.

Those are useful places to start. The right parts depend on what you want to change, how you use the car and what's already fitted.

Start with the driving you actually do

Mostly street. You want the car to feel responsive and settled, whether you're commuting or taking the long way home. Steering feel, stability and tire life all belong in the conversation.

Street with occasional track days. You want more confidence and grip at the circuit, while still enjoying the drive there and back. Your road mileage, tires and current alignment help determine where that balance should sit.

Primarily track. You have more room to tailor the setup to the circuit and tires. An alignment report, tire wear and temperature readings can help turn “I'd like more grip” into a specific adjustment plan.

What are you feeling behind the wheel?

Use these examples to start a conversation with your alignment specialist. They follow the tuning directions in our Mega-Pack #1 Support guide; the right adjustment still depends on the whole setup.

What you'd like to improve What to look at Where the parts come in
“I'd like the front end to grip better in corners.” Review front camber, especially if you're also seeing outer-shoulder wear. GT3-style lower control arms provide shim-based camber adjustment when your chosen alignment needs more range.
“I'd like it to turn in a little more eagerly.” Discuss front toe as part of the alignment. Start with the adjustment you need. Rear toe links adjust the rear axle, so they aren't the part for this particular job.
“I'd like stronger steering self-centering and a more settled feel in a straight line.” Review caster and rear toe together. Front tension links address caster adjustment; rear toe links address rear toe.
“I'd like the rear to feel more settled coming out of corners.” Discuss rear toe-in. Rear toe links are relevant when you need additional adjustment capability.
“I'd like the car to rotate more readily.” Discuss reducing rear toe-in. Rear toe links support that adjustment, but the tradeoff can be a less forgiving car at the limit.
“I'd like to get more life out of my tires.” Review the wear pattern and alignment, including front toe-out and excessive camber for your use. An alignment review comes first. More parts—or more negative camber—aren't automatically the answer.

Our rear thrust arms adjust longitudinal wheel position; our rear toe links adjust wheel direction. The rear thrust-arm kit covers 986 Boxster (1997-2004), 987 Boxster (2005-2012), 987 Cayman (2006-2012) and 997 911 (2005-2011). It does not fit the 996. Our tension/compression-link kit is the front caster-adjustment component; you do not install both kits at the same rear mounting position.

Turn that plan into a parts list

Once you know which adjustments you need, choosing the parts becomes much easier. If lower control arms are all your plan calls for, buy the pair. If you're also adding links, compare the packs against that same plan.

Each Mega-Pack includes one pair of every component listed, including one lower-control-arm pair—two arms. If your plan includes control arms on both axles, check the application and quantity you need before ordering.

Already thinking about alignment settings?

The Support section on Mega-Pack #1 includes starting points for street, street/track and track use. Those recommendations are specifically for 987 Cayman and Boxster models lowered approximately 25–35 mm from factory ride height. They're a starting point for that setup, rather than a set of numbers to apply to every Porsche.

Tell us about your car—and what you want from it

You don't need to arrive with a finished parts list. Tell us what you enjoy about the car now and what you'd like to improve. Include the year, model and trim, tires, suspension changes and ride height. If you have an alignment report, send that too.

Knowing what's already on the car helps us point you toward the parts that fit your plan.
